Garrus -cosplay head making- by Flytrap-Hell Garrus -cosplay head making- by Flytrap-Hell
My 11th "fursuit head" is a cosplay: Garrus Vakarian from the awsome game trilogy Mass Effect!

I don't know should I call this a fursuit head or not... since there's no fur at all! XD It's still constructed similar way.
Garrus is absolutely my favourite character from the series and I actually wanted to try out making a head without fur. I made a lot of mistakes and I cannot say that this would be the most comfortable thing to wear... But as I was wearing this in Tracon convention the last weekend, many, many people did recognise me! ^^D

The head is build on top of fabric hood with foam sheets. I painted the head with white glue, hot glue and finally used acrylics. The eyes are made of clear resin.
The visor has a led inside of it.

I will post some convention pictures too during this or next week! ^^D

It got a few cracks on the surface and the small parts of the mandibles almost got chipped off. Luckily I had superglue with me, but still the material choises weren't the best possible. I should have used a product called plasti dip OR latex to prevent the chipping.
Well, I'll be smarter the next time. =)

Wow this is amazing!!!! I was wanting to make a garrus mask for Halloween!!!! Is it okay if I ask what the blue stuff is? And did you use white glue to make a smooth surface when you painted it? Thanks! Hope to hear from you!

The blue stuff is simply just acrylic paint. I had pretty much of that so I decided to coat the head with a couple of extra layers before painting with the real colors. The white glue was there to smooth the surface indeed, in some layers I combined the white glue and blue paint.

Though! If I would make this again, I would after crafting the head coat it with Plasti Dip, to get a plastic-like surface before paiting. My mask got some cracks on it's surface because the paint and white glue made it stiff and the mandible tentacle-things on chin nearly snapped off when they hit something.

Good luck with your mask! =)

You think? ^^D Well I am glad to help another cosplayer! I didn't mention this on the artist comments, but the shoes are platforms (about 5cm). This didn't still help my height problem, since I'm only about 164cm tall... and turians are supposed to be really tall! =__=' Too bad I didn't remember to take more WIP photos.

Until I can work out a safe and proper way to make the "Tall feet" stilt things I can use this design of yours!.. I am about 6 ft 1.. so I might be able to get away with it.. if i get platforms or something... :D

Wow, that's an amazing effort! Very different to your usual fur costumes. :3 I love how the silver and the scars came out!
What paints did you use, (The blue and silver stuff) how did you manage to paint the fabric, and did you use any spray to protect the work? Sorry, loads of questions. XD This is stuff I want to try out sometime...
Also, awesome job on recolouring the guns! XD It's funny how the originals were just water guns. :P
Overall, brilliant job! :D

You should definately check out This dude. He does a lot of costume making in this style. It's very awesome. :3

Thank you so much again from your creative, encouraging and inspiring comments! =^^=
All the paints used are acrylics you can buy from art stores (I mainly use a brand called Folk Art), they are quite expensive though (at least here in Finland).
For the fabric I used a mixture of fabric colors (the ones that mainly kids use to self-print something on a t-shirt) and acrylics to get the desired shades. Using only acrylics would have left the fabric really stiff.
For the spray, I did use a matte spray paint you can buy... well from any hardware store. Though, it still made the surface a little bit shiny, which annoyed me. =(
As for the guns, we (me and my housemate, the Tali cosplayer) originally weren't supposed to do them, but we still had a couple of days before the con, so we were like "well why the hell not? Let's see what comes of these" XD

And oh, him! Yeah I checked his gallery when I was planning mine. I love his geth costume. ^^D

No problemo! :D Alway love to do so. :3

Yeah...some acrylics, even student-based, can cost quite a bit.

With the fabric colours; did you iron them afterwards? Because I tried fabric colours and water would wash it off quickly otherwise...

Right...That's probably what I need to get to protect future work from getting wet.
But the shinyness fits! I mean...he is somewhat scaly. XD

XD Yes, and an awesome addition they turned out to be! :D

Lol, small world. XD
Yeah, I personally saw it when he came and visited my school (he used to be in my school something like three years ago. XD). It looked pretty awesome. :3
I'm probably going to be trying some of the techniques he uses. I tried using foam for my dragon costume, which worked, but was very hard to carve (not to mention very warm)...

No, I didn't iron the fabric colors.. they stayed just fine for me after properly drying.

Hm, I might need to look for a fabric colour which does the same thing. XD
